von Call String Qt No.2 Viola Part

The Steiner Plate No. for this quartet is 2695. The viola part, however, is plate no.1533. It is not in the same key, does not have the same movements etc. Obviously, it is the part to something else and as such the work is unplayable.

Good catch. Apparently the Sibley Library has the wrong viola part. Also, the Violin 1 part show seems to show 2694 rather than 2695.

I'll check with our special collections department to see what happened. We have 3 of his quartets digitized, so perhaps something happened with the file naming.

It looks like the problem stems back to March 4, 1952 when the piece was accessioned by us. My guess is that the dealer sent the wrong viola part, and it was never caught until now. I'm trying to get the part from the other library that owns a copy of this. I'll let you know if I'm successful.

The other library supplied me with what I think is the correct part. The plate number format at the bottom looks different than our copy, but it looks to at least be the right work now. Our url is
