Fugue contest 1926

Post by Wilh3lm »

I have a collection of three four-part fugues written for a contest. The fugues are by Pierre Revel (1901-1984), Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992), and Jean Rivier (1896-1987). Since they were published in 1926 and that's what the score says, they should all be uploadable to PML-US.

Source for Revel's birth and death: https://musicalics.com/en/node/94728
Messiaen is well-known, but his wikipedia is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivier_Messiaen
Wikipedia for Rivier: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Rivier

Sorry for not responding sooner. Do you have more specific evidence regarding the actual piece in question? Those sites are not evidence for the work in question (Cover doesn't count) but thanks for offering evidence of the composers in question. Find something on like Worldcat on the piece itself would help us verify your claim.

This appears to be relevant entry on Worldcat.

It seems to be correct, and checking the score shows the title and publication matching up exactly.

I also have a question regarding the work pages. Should I make a separate work page for each piece under the respective composers? Revel also doesn't have a composer page so one needs to be created for him. (Messiaen and Rivier already do, with one piece PD-US each: Messiaen due to lack of renewal or other reasons, Rivier published in 1920.)

If so, then I could go ahead uploading it to PML-US, right? Just one question: should I upload them together (written by "Various"), separately (under the respective composer pages. Revel doesn't seem to have one though...), or both?

You could do both if you want, make a workpage for various, then upload them splitted out onto the individual work pages.

I'm adding the Various page right now, but can't seem to find how to make it a collection. Odd, given that I already created a work page for the Sylviad.
Here's the link for someone to go fix it: https://imslp.org/wiki/Three_Fugues_(Various)

Edit: I went into the source editor for the Sylviad to find the line I needed and copy pasted it in. The work page should be good now.
