well, I know i like bach for piano. he's really good. for violin, at the moment, i like (dunno how to spell, tho) wieniawski. especially his tarantella.

For me,bach.I study the 4th prelude and fuga for 5 voices and I can't believe his genius...

Good to know that it is just practice. Of course particular things that happen in the critical period of ones life help.

I recently read that some scientists believe that everyone has perfect pitch, but they unlearn it. Interesting if true.

I would say the almighty Ludwig van Beethoven is the greatest composer ever.

With Beethoven, half his pieces are absolute master pieces, but the other half is.... well.... meh...

I am more inclined to believe Franz Liszt was one of the greatest composers. I know that he has an unfair advantage since he lived very long (compared to most other composers), but in truth, he has produced so many amazing works in all different forms; in addition, he inspired most of the composers from the contemporary era. The Hungarian Rhapsodies are probably my favorite compilation of solo piano music, but there are also countless other compositions that revere Liszt as a genius, paramount to most any other composer.

I think the "best" composer ever is either Beethoven or Liszt.

As far as personality, I'm actually (unfortunately?) really close to Berlioz.

its so hard not so be biased when people ask you who you think is the best composer because i tend to love romantic/impressionist composers because i just love the sounds and then that affects my reply...

because my favorite composer is schumann and ravel and chopin. :

Hmm...interesting choices, so ill throw another weird one out there.
If you ever get the chance to hear anything by Nicolai Tcherepnin, take it. His piano concerto (Op.30) is simply the best piece of music you've probably never heard before.
