I would say the Balakirev is pretty obscure.

Balakirev as a name isn't obscure at all. He was one of The Five for god sakes.
Now his Symphonies aren't all that known, but obscure is a bit pushing it.

First of all, I was referring to the piece when I called it obscure. I am well aware that he was not only in The Five, but the leader of that group.

If I'm not mistaken, Sir Thomas Beecham was greatly responsible for helping to make Balakirev's 1st symphony not obscure in the West.

Dvorak is a god, hands down. Much better than Bruckner, Mahler, or Richard Strauss.

Zemlinsky: Lyrische Symphony conducted by Lorin Maazel with Fischer-Dieskau and Julia Varady. Truly amazing piece of music.

And at the risk of going off topic, I will say definitively that Dvorak is no God. Even if he was, I still wouldn't like his music.
