any string quartet players, experts, or fans?

Post by adeadsniper »

Anyone out there who is interested in string quartets? That includes anyone who is in a string quartet, likes string quartet compositions, or knows a lot about this genre. Just curious.

I'm a violist in an active string quartet that is almost the main focus of my musical efforts right now.

Nice. Just getting a feel for the type of audience imslp.org is serving.

To be honest I don't dislike any genre of instrument sets. The only thing I dislike are composers and certain instruments (all of which tend not to be in most classical music instruments sets).

I love playing in small string ensembles! I've been/played with a few quartets and occasionally a quintet or sextet, although I'm not in any at the moment.

I don't play any stringed instruments so I don't actually participate in any string quartets, but I have some friends who do, and I love to listen (and act as "gofer" to help them find scores from sources such as IMSLP).

One of my evil plans on the road to world domination is to overthrow one of the violin players and replace him with myself on flute, so that we can perform some of those beautiful flute quartets by Mozart, Boccherini, Vanhal, Pleyel, Fränzl, Hoffmeister, Devienne, Haydn et al.

You have probably heard the well-known definition of a string quartet:

A good violinist
A bad violinist
An ex-violinist
And someone who hates violinists
All getting together to complain about composers.

“all great composers wrote music that could be described as ‘heavenly’; but others have to take you there. In Schubert’s music you hear the very first notes, and you know that you’re there already.” - Steven Isserlis

Hallo! I'm new here, don't play any instrument, but I'm a fanatic of
strings music,in particular small ensambles.I think I've nearly 400
recorded different works for quartets,quintets,sextets,etc.
I'm glad to found somedy in my line. Poor chamber instrumental
is the Cindarella of classical music. For every 100 fans, there are
maybe 10 or 15 who love and enjoy chamber.
Sure, everybody has LvB SQ or Bach solo violin or cello works.
But if you name Taneyev,Glazunov,Leo Weiner or Karl Goldmark,
they think that you are weird and try to be as far of you as possible.
