On Brahms op 34 Quintet

Post by ranc »

Hi,
I'm a bit new to the forums so I'm not too sure if this is in the right category
I just need to check to see if this is really a copyright issue or possibly a mistake. Right, now to the point:

Why is Brahms op.34 Quintet parts copyrighted even though the scores aren't? I thought Brahms fell under the before 1922 category?

Because the copy in question which is currently blocked was published by Durand in 1929 with an editor. This wouldn't simply be a Durand reprint/engraving (in which case it would be free) but a new edition done after 1922, making it under copyright in the US.
