Stravinsky's Sacre autograph

Post by sbeckmesser »

Boosey is about to publish the autograph full score of Le sacre du printemps (as well of his 4-hand arrangement of the piece). Am I correct to assume it (the facsimile of the full score itself, minus any added editorial material) will be PD in the USA? If one were to derive parts from the score, would they be PD and where?

Yes, it certainly would be. You could post images of the autograph and produce an edition based upon the autograph and post it to the USA server with no problem. The only thing pertaining to the piece apart from arrangements and new editions that remains under copyright in the USA is the composer's re-barred Danse sacrale from the 1940s - which appeared to be part of a general program to create versions of his earlier works which were never protected in the US (Firebird 1945 and Petrushka 1947).
