Muzgiz Scores

Post by JVG305 »

First, THANK YOU (!!!) for this service! I am thrilled to begin supporting IMSLP financially beginning in August.

Second, please forgive my stupidity. I don’t understand Muzgiz’s US copyrights, as I cannot find Muzgiz scores *anywhere*. I have been seeking Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto #2 (2-piano arrangement) in the Muzgiz edition and now find that it’s copyright protected in the US? I don’t understand. I’m so sorry.

Well reason its under copyright like you see on the other scores and parts on the page is because it comes down to the first publication of the work in general. When one setting is first published during his lifetime of the work, all extant versions are of the same publication as the first publication of the work for Soviet works. Were assuming an NIE was filed by Prokofiev so the works would be under copyright in the USA then, after 1923.
