Folk Music used by Famous Composers

Post by dwil9798 »

Does anyone happen to know the exact book of folk songs that Aaron Copland used for Appalachain Spring? If so, could someone please upload it? Also, I know the intro to the Rite of Spring was inspired by a folk song. Does anyone have the book where he got the song from, and could someone please upload it, also?

The most famous tune used in Appalachian Spring isn't strictly a folk tune but a Shaker Hymn titled A Gift to be Simple.

The intro to the Rite of Spring originates from a Lithuanian folk song. But the entire work is full of snippets from folk songs. Same thing with Petrushka.

I would assume that Richard Taruskin's mammoth writings on Stravinsky would include references to sources for tunes that the composer used in Rite of Spring.
