volumes in 1 pdf

Post by erdemkarakas »

hello, my question actually regards a method, which is dividing volumes which include many compositions and creating seperate pdfs for each piece. it is something very useful for the list of compositions linking and when you look for a specific composition but in cases you want to have the entire volume, it is a problem... can't we have also versions as 1 pdf for the whole book?

ex: lieder books, madrigal books, recently added volumes of schutz edition...

i think many users whould like to have such books in one pdf also, to have them at disposal without trying to remake the volume fishing pieces out of the lists

thanks

The Schütz has already been divided up into pieces by the original scanner (not the IMSLP contributor who is uploading them) and in some cases, recombining them into PDFs would have gaping omissions, or require merging two separate page scans together. It would, however, be a lot more convenient to have single downloads for large collections than a whole lot of itsy-bitsy files, but sometimes we are not presented with such an option.

If you’re of a mind to rationalise some collections, best to pose specific questions before you go ahead and start merging. Sometimes the scores on IMSLP have deliberately been split apart (yet it would be very useful to have the original un-split file for download, somewhere). The Bach Gesamtausgabe scans fall into this category.

Cheers, Philip

so there is nothing to do for what have been done already. but may be we can ask gently to the contributors to consider to have also a 1pdf version of such books, when possible of course, can't we? :D

Like PML, I've often thought it would be quite useful to have the complete volumes of the BGA available. Perhaps there is a way this could be done in the future by having them resident on the category page for the Bach Gesellschaft Ausgabe instead of adding another 47 pages to the Johann Sebastian Bach category. The same principle could be applied to any of the complete editions available. It's certainly an idea worthy of consideration.
