request for recent additions list

Post by Peter »

Hello Feldmahler,

would it be much work to create a second recent additions list that is longer than the current one or even with a customisable length? This would be nice now that I have less time for IMSLP. Even after two days, the current list is not long enough to see what's new.

Thanks in advance.

Btw, where does your nick come from?

Cheers
Peter

I've made it so that the recent changes list is unbounded; you can go as far back as you want :)

By the way, do you think adding who changed the tag last to the tagging system would be helpful? I'm somewhat busy at the moment, but if you think it would be really helpful, I'll do it :)

P.S. My nick comes from a Xenakis/Feldman joke: see http://www.nieuwe-muziek.nl/ianmor1.htm :)

hmm, actually I meant the recent additions list, the one on the homepage :)

and the tagging modification is not urgent as we're only 5 admins, but if we expand that would become useful, yes.

Allow me to repeat the question: Do you think it would be hard to implement a proper log, accessible and searchable via Special:Log, and showing up in Special:Recentchanges (somehow I'd be slightly more comfortable if nothing happened "behind the scenes")? If you think that it is feasible, I'm willing to help if you can tell me what needs to be coded.

Oops... haha. That unfortunately cannot be done very flexibly... however I suppose I can sort of trick the Recent Tags list to sort by IMSLP index number, effectively becoming sort of a Recent Additions list. :) I can try that soon.

This would be hard yes... and would involve digging somewhat deep into the MediaWiki code. I'll look into it in due time :) Though, like Peter says, I think it is at the moment fine since we have the Recent Tags list. Something of the sort will probably be necessary down the road, however.

Also, one of the reasons why I didn't make the tags system put copyright tags (or anything really) on the wiki page itself is precisely because I don't want stuff to happen behind the scenes... the tagging system is supposed to be a tool in helping admins identify copyright problems, and not changing the wiki itself :) Theoretically, all submissions should still be public domain (but of course that's only theoretically...).

And, as per topic, the abusing of the tag list page is now complete ;) Here's the result:
