Re: Untangling Ballet Scores

You'd need to give an actual example in order to judge this. However, to respond to your points. 1. If so, this may need to be treated as an anonymous work (mis-)attributed to the putative author. 2. The restagings have no impact on the copyright of the music used. 3. If you have a copy of it, it al...

If you scan the PDF, submit it to IMSLP — don't just send it to the other user privately.

Re: Madam, Madame Laschanzky Oboe concerto

This is really wrong either way, because "Madam" or "Madame" is a title, not part of her name. Also, you will note that on the manuscript, the abbreviations "Mad." and "Madam." are both used.

These pieces are not in the public domain anywhere, as far as I know, so IMSLP can't help you here.

Re: Harry Ore

We can't and don't have his complete works, since not all of his works are in the public domain in the US, and none are in the public domain in Canada. (Even when all of a composer's works can be hosted on IMSLP, they aren't usually all present, just because we don't have access to every piece that ...

Re: Chorale preludes based on copyrighted hymns... ok or not?

I'm planning a series of organ chorale preludes based on well-known Dutch hymn tunes. Problem is, many of these tunes are still copyright protected since the composers died less than 70 years ago (I'm talking about EU copyright, obviously). No existing harmonizations are used, only the plain melodi...

If first published in 1907, then this piece is PD-US. Thanks!

Re: Koussevitzky piece still not in the public domain?

The date when a piece was written is not usually important for US copyright. The details of publication are usually what's relevant. Some works aren't published until many years after being written. Since this piece was, to my knowledge, first published in 1936, when Koussevitzky was not yet a US ci...

Re: Using scanned images of scores on IMSLP commercially

There is no distinct copyright in a photocopy of an item as opposed to the item itself. The person who photocopies an item gets no new copyright by making the photocopy. Even if there were a new copyright in photocopies (and, to be clear, there isn't ), this would not extend to recordings made using...

Re: Martin, Frank — Quatre sonnets à Cassandre (1921 Heugel)

Not actually published in 1921, according to all the evidence I can find. This piece was composed in 1921, but first published around 1939/1940.

Note that any of Naginski's works which were first published between 1929 and 1963 are only copyrighted in the US if the copyright was renewed.

Based on the plate number and what I can find online, probably circa 1910s.

Re: Incorrect title

"Dream of Autumn" is not really a subtitle. It's a translated title. Nevertheless, since the French title is more prominent on the original publication, it can be listed under the French title.

Re: Sonatas from Heinrich Döbel

Hi Notenschreiber, So, it's a bit complex. Of course, Heinrich Döbel lived and died in the 1600s, and thus his lifetime never overlapped with the existence of the modern concept of copyright at all, let alone the Berne Convention. Not only did Döbel live before copyright law existed, he also lived b...
